SHAZAM! Director David F. Sandberg Is Done with Superhero Movies and Is Eager to Get Back Into Horror
Shazam! and Shazam!: Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg has made his last superhero movie for a while. After the disappointing opening for Fury of the Gods, the filmmaker is ready to move on and jump back into horror, which is sure to be a good move for him because he makes great horror movies!
The director recently jumped on Twitter to talk about what his future as a filmmaker looks like, and it doesn’t involve superhero films. This is what he shared:
"On Rotten Tomatoes I just got my lowest critic score and my highest audience score on the same film. I wasn't expecting a repeat of the first movie critically but I was still a little surprised because I think it's a good film. Oh well.”
“As I've been saying for a while now I'm very eager to go back to horror (as well as trying some new things). After six years of Shazam! I'm definitely done with superheroes for now. One thing I've really been looking forward to is disconnecting from the superhero discourse online. A lot of that stresses me out so much and it will be nice not having to think about that anymore."
He’s definitely spent his fair share of time in the world of Shazam! and I imagine he is probably a little happy that he most likely won’t have to make another Shazam! movie again. It’ll be great to see him direct another horror movie and it will be cool to eventually see what that horror film ends up being! He previously directed films such as Lights Out and Annabelle Creation, which were both great horror flicks.
