SHAZAM! Set Photo Reveals Our First Look at Zachary Levi in Full Costume

After director David S. Sandberg teased the inspiration for the costume Zachary Levi will be wearing in Shazam! We may actually have our first look at the actor in costume and he looks like... Shazam! When previously talking about the suit, the director said:

"The suit has some similarities to his look in Justice League: War. Once pics have been released I can tell you more about where the inspirations came from and why certain choices were made."

The photo below, which comes from Batman-News, gives us a look at the actor from behind, but it still offers us a decent look at the full costume. It has a very cartoon-style feel to it, which is honestly exactly what I was hoping for! I was afraid the costume would have that same style that we've seen in the other DC films, but I felt that style wouldn't work for Shazam. He's more of a colorful and humorous hero and it's good to see that Sandberg is embracing that.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).

Shazam! also stars Jack Dylan Grazer (IT) as Billy’s best friend and ultimate superhero enthusiast, Freddy, part of the foster family that includes Mary, played by Grace Fulton (Annabelle: Creation); Darla, played by Faithe Herman (This is Us); Eugene, played by Ian Chen (Fresh Off the Boat); and Pedro, played by Jovan Armand (TV’s Hawaii Five-O). Cooper Andrews of The Walking Dead and Marta Milans (Killer Women) play foster parents Victor and Rosa Vasquez, with Ron Cephas Jones (This is Us) as the Wizard.

The story is primarily set in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the movie is being shot in Toronto. I can't wait to actually start seeing some images and footage of what this film and the characters are going to look like!

Shazam! will be released on April 5, 2019.
