SHAZAM! Will Be The Most "Fun" and "Lighthearted" Film in The DCEU

Last month it was confirmed that Shazam! would be the next DC film from Warner Bros. to go into production. The movie is being directed by David Sandberg, who is best known for his horror films like Lights Out and the upcoming movie Annabelle Creation.

Even though the director's film focus has been on the horror genre, don't expect Shazam! to be a dark film because the director is planning a film with a lighter tone. Sandberg actually got his start doing animated comedy shorts, so he's looking to bring that humor to his film. During an interview with Moviefone, he said:

"This will be very different than what I've done in the feature space, because it's not a horror movie and it's a much lighter tone. But it's something that I look forward to trying out, even though I plan to return to horror in some fashion. My background, back in Sweden, before I started doing horror shorts, I was doing animated comedy shorts. It's not totally alien to me to have more of a comedy approach. I look forward to taking that on in a feature."

In a separate interview with Toronto Sun, the director went on to say that Shazam! will be one the most fun and lighthearted movies in the DCEU so far.

"The big attraction for me with that character is the fact that every kid dreams of being Superman, right? I mean I certainly did, and (Billy Batson) is a kid that gets that chance. He gets to become the superhero. So it’ll be big with superpowers in a way. In terms of what people can expect, I think this will be one of the more fun or lighthearted movies so far in the DC universe. It certainly will be a departure."

This movie has the potential to be incredibly entertaining. It's such a fun and unique superhero story, which follows a young boy who transforms into Earth's mightiest hero. Sandberg is still fairly new to directing feature films, but judging from what he's done so far, he's a talented guy with a great future ahead of him. I can't wait to see what he does with Shazam!
