SHE-HULK Writer Explains Why They Subverted Daredevil's Badass Hallway Fight Scene
The latest episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law featured the return of Charlie Cox as Daredevil, and it was fun to see him in action again, this time fully in the MCU!
There was a scene in this most recent episode where Daredevil is in a hallway fighting some bad guys and there came a point where he is confronted by a whole group of them. I was on the edge of my seat excitedly expecting to see another badass Daredevil hallway fight scene! But then She-Hulk dropped in on them and that was the end of that.
I won’t lie, I was a little bummed out that Daredevil didn’t get that moment, but… She-Hulk writer Jessica Gao explains why. In a recent interview with Marvel, she opened up about why they subverted Daredevils’ iconic Hallway fight scene saying:
"We have to keep reminding people that this is Jen's show, this is She-Hulk's show. Everything in the show is like, how can we either subvert a trope or defy expectations or ground something in funny reality. That's kind of the ethos of the show. So of course, it was just natural for this show, being so meta, that we would acknowledge and tease the classic Daredevil hallway fight. But then, of course, we would have to undercut it with our girl, She-Hulk."
I get it. This is She-Hulk’s show, but I was still left a little bummed out. Regardless, this was one of my favorite episodes of the show. Not just with Daredevil, but with where the overall story arc for She-Hulk is going. This has been a hard show for me to get into, but I’m curious to see how it comes to an end.
I’m also super excited about the future of Daredevil in the MCU as he’s set to appear in Echo before his 18-episode Daredevil: Born Again series. I really want that series to be just as hardcore, gritty, and badass as the Netflix show!
