Shia LaBeouf Is Writing a New Film That Will Tell a Story Set at Auschwitz

According to Abel Ferrara, who directed Shia LaBeouf in the upcoming film Padre Pio, LaBeouf is currently writing a movie about Auschwitz and will tell a story set in the concentration camp. Ferrara and the actor are looking to collaborate together on this film project.

Padre Pio is the first project LaBeouf has starred in after taking a break following abuse allegations made in 2020 by his ex-girlfriend.

During an interview with The Film Stage, Ferrara was asked if he has stayed in touch with LaBeouf, Ferrera said, “He’s doing real good, man. He’s doing real good. He went off and he did a Coppola movie [Megalopolis]. So that was, there was one of those films, right? I mean, Padre Pio was 15 days or 20 days and he was in for four so he wasn’t there a long time. But anyway, it was good and he’s working.”

Ferrara added, “We’re working on a film together –– he’s writing something about Auschwitz that we’re thinking about doing.”

There are no details on the story that the film will tell, but due to the setting, it’s certainly going to be a very emotional project.

In Padre Pio, a young priest, Shia LaBeouf, “begins his ministry at a remote Capuchin monastery in Italy’s San Giovanni Rotondo. WWI has ended and Italian soldiers — broken but victorious — are returning to the impoverished village ruled by wealthy land owners. As events surrounding the first free election in Italy threaten to tear the village apart, Padre Pio struggles with his own personal demons, ultimately emerging from his spiritual anguish to become one of Catholicism’s most venerated figures.”
