SHIN GODZILLA Director Is Building a Shared Universe with Godzilla, Ultraman, Kaman Rider, and Evangelion
Shared universes are all the craze right now, but the only studio that has been actually to effectively pull it off is Marvel Studios. Well, Shin Godzilla director, Hideaki Anno, is now going to give it a try with the Shin Japan Heroes Universe.
This universe will bring together Godzilla, Ultraman, Kamen Rider, and robot anime Evangelion together. These properties all come from different owners including Toei, Toho, Tsuburaya Productions, and Hideaki Anno’s Studio Khara.
This is going to be an explosion of Japanese pop culture! While there aren’t many details to share right now, Tsuburaya Productions reports that more info will be released later this year. They also shared a piece of concept art created by artist Mahiro Maeda, and a logo.
It’ll be interesting to see what form this ends up taking. But this is all leading toward a cinematic universe. Anno has a connection to many of these properties. On top of Shin Godzilla, he’s also directing Shin Kamen Rider, and is also writing and producing Shin Ultraman, which is scheduled for release in Japan on May 13, 2022. I assume these upcoming films are a part of this Shin Japan Heroes Universe.
Anno made the following comment about the upcoming shared universe: "It is a project that uses a common item called "Shin" as an expedient. In the future, the word "Shin" will be removed...we hope that the development of SJHU will please our fans as a new pleasure that transcends the boundaries of the character(s) worlds."
Are you excited about what Anno is looking to build with this Shin Japan Heroes Universe?
