SHREK is Being Revived for Some Reason by DESPICABLE ME Creator

I can understand a lot of revivals/reboots/remakes that happen these days. A lot of them are older properties that feed the nostalgia of many people these days.

Shrek has not been dead long enough to really fit that bill. But, now that Comcast owns DreamWorks Animation, Universal Pictures has tasked Despicable Me creator Chris Meledandri with the task of reviving Shrek and Puss in Boots.

At least Meledandri wants to bring back the original voice cast of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Antonio Banderas.

When you look back on those vocal performances they’re awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterizations. The challenge for us has been to find something that really does feel like it’s not simply yet another film in a series of sequels.

Meledandri is working on figuring out the story of these new Shrek films. I am just left wondering to myself, “why?” I enjoyed the first two Shrek films, but that franchise has only been dead for about 8 years.

Are you excited that Shrek is being revived?
