SHREK to Be "Resurrected" for Future Films

So here's a new thing in the film industry. NBC Universal has acquired Dreamworks animation and have announced plans to "resurrect Shrek." This doesn't mean they are rebooting him, and it also doesn't mean they are remaking him. Instead they are going to continue on the storyline of sequels with a new creative direction. I guess it's kind of like Doctor Who?

Collider reports that Chris Meledandri (director of Minions) will be helping steer the franchise in a new direction. Hopefully that doesn't mean Shrek will be speaking incoherently and craving bananas.

I know I shouldn't have such a strong opinion on this, but you can't make the Shrek franchise any worse. After number two the film series went to garbage incredibly quickly! The original still remains to be one of my favorite movies, despite the Internet's best efforts to soil my memory of the beloved Ogre.

Let's hope whatever we see next has layers not unlike an onion.
