Simon Pegg and Nick Frost Will Be Producing a Series of Films For Young Adults
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's production company called Stolen Picture has launched a new initiative where they will work with up-and-coming writers on a collection of young-adult projects and they are calling it the Righta Incubator. There are already two film projects in development.
The first project is called We Never Sleep, and it's a detective comedy-thriller that will "tackle bullying, justice, morality, mental health and post-Brexit small-town life."
The second one is called Chemistry, and it will be "a fast-paced genre hybrid that will pose questions about what it means to be human as the show follows protagonists on the run for their survival."
There are currently five writers that have been brought on board this Righta Incubator and they include BAFTA-nominated Olly Cambridge (Pls Like), Gemma Copping, (Eastenders, Holby City), playwright and writer Phoebe Éclair-Powell (Tin Star), comedian Ellliot Steel and Faryal Velmi, who have written a series called Ackley Bridge.
The Stolen Picture initiative won't just involve movies, They will also develop TV shows, VR projects, video games, and graphic novels. The five members of the incubator are on a retainer and get co-ownership of the projects they work on.
Stolen Picture's partner Miles Ketley had this to say in a statement:
"Time and again, we’ve found that our projects – be they comedy, horror, sci-fi or straight drama – are speaking to YA audiences and so we wanted to ensure that authentic YA voices were at the heart of these projects.
“The IP-rights incubator seemed to be a smart and commercially fair way of engaging this incredibly talented team to find a common voice in this space and create something truly unique for audiences across multiple platforms."
As a long time fan of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, I'm looking forward to seeing what film projects they end up producing through this program.
