Simon Pegg Reveals His Favorite Film in the Cornetto Trilogy; What's Your Favorite!?
Simon Pegg teamed up with director Edgar Wright and co-star Nick Frost for a trilogy of films that is referred to as the “Cornetto trilogy,” three films that feature a running inclusion of Cornetto ice creams. The movies, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End, star Pegg and Frost as different characters, and the movies don’t have more in common than being British comedies with similar ensembles and feel to them. They have a huge fanbase, and are loved in varying degrees, and when asked which film is his favorite, Pegg responded in a surprising way.
Pegg told Discussing Film:
"My favorite of the Cornetto trilogy is The World’s End because it’s the least audience friendly. It’s the darkest of the three. It’s the most challenging, and I love the idea of actually putting the audience in a position where they have to feel a little bit uncomfortable and not necessarily cozy into the familiar."
The 2013 sci-fi film saw a group of friends attempt a pub crawl, then inadvertently stumble on an alien invasion in the process. When asked if we can expect a Cornetto Quadrilogy, Pegg previously revealed that he and director Edgar Wright held planning sessions over a new film last summer. Pegg teased, "Whatever we do next, it’ll be difficult, that’s for sure."
What kind of story would you like to see the trio attempt next? I don’t care what it is, I will be in the theater to watch it! What’s your favorite film in the trilogy?
