Simu Liu Says the Cast List For AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Blew His Mind and Reveals Who He's Most Excited to Work With
Simu Liu plays Shang-Chi in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and even he is impressed with the film’s cast list so far. He says he’s excited to get back to work, seeing as he hasn’t been able to play the character in person since his debut in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), but he’s also stoked to work with some of the cast he’s never had the privilege of co-starring with before.
The actor explained on The Jennifer Hudson show:
“I saw when Sir Ian [McKellen] and Sir Patrick [Stewart] were announced, these are like two of the greatest actors to ever walk the face of the Earth, and that kind of blew my mind a little bit. We are so excited to get back to work.”
Liu of course kept quiet on further casting and plot details, but he noted that he “knew that I was going to be involved in it in some capacity, but I didn’t know who else they were announcing.”
He then explained his decision to maintain secrecy by jokingly taking a punt at Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo for their accidental leaks in the past.
Aside from Liu, Ian McKellen, and Patrick Stewart, Avengers: Doomsday also features Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Sebastian Stan, and Tom Hiddleston, among others, with more stars expected to join the cast soon. Helmed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film hits the big screen on May 1, 2026.
