SMILE 2 Director Parker Finn Talks About the Future of the Franchise After That Wild Ending
Smile 2 has been a big hit with horror fans. It’s actually a great movie, and I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it ended up being. I really enjoyed it, and I loved its bonkers ending that sets up a wild sequel.
During a recent interview with CB, director Parker Finn said he’s interested in returning for a third film, and he wants to continue to tell character stories instead of delivering cheap scares. He also teased he sees a lot of storytelling opportunities for the franchise.
“Well, I will say this, I think there are a lot of interesting roads that any future Smile could go down. For me, I love all the stuff that goes bump in the night, and all the really frightening things of the big concept of Smile and the Smiler.
“But really, for me, Smile is a vehicle to tell really intense and hopefully thoughtful character stories, and so I’d wanna make sure, regardless of if more than one person might have it, that we still find a way to really invest intimacy into the storytelling.
“That’s super important to me. But I think there are some really interesting tricks still up the sleeves of Smile.”
The filmmaker seems to have a handle on telling good character-driven horror stories, it will be really interesting to see what that looks like now that thousands of people have been cursed with the Smile demon.
What would you want to see in the next Smile sequel?
In the sequel: “About to embark on a new world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley (Scott) begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events.
“Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to face her dark past to regain control of her life before it spirals out of control.”
This franchise centers on an evil, unrelenting demon that drives its victims to suicide by appearing as a series of human beings with sinister smiles plastered across their faces.
