Snakes, Religion and Sin, Oh My! in Unnerving Trailer for THEM THAT FOLLOW

I’ve got a weird trailer for you today with a great cast and a creepy storyline. Them That Follow is the story of a girl in a desolate, backwoods religious sect that appears to be pushing her toward a marriage she’s not super into. So as to prove her devotion to God, her family, and the powers that be, she is made to perform some sort of ritual with venomous snakes, you know, as one does. As my wedding anniversary approaches, I remember fondly my venomous snake ritual.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

Deep in Appalachia, Pastor Lemuel Childs (Walton Goggins) presides over an isolated community of serpent handlers, an obscure sect of Pentecostals who willingly take up venomous snakes to prove themselves before God. As his devoted daughter, Mara (Alice Englert) prepares for her wedding day, under the watchful eye of Hope Slaughter (Academy Award Winner Olivia Colman), a dangerous secret is unearthed and she is forced to confront the deadly tradition of her father’s church. Also starring Kaitlyn Dever, Jim Gaffigan, Thomas Mann, and Lewis Pullman.

Like I said, the cast is great, and critic reviews from the film’s Sundance debut were very good. There’s a lot of buzz around this film, and I am excited to see it just based on all of that. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think!

Them That Follow hits theaters on August 2, 2019.
