SNL's Kate McKinnon Set to Star in and Executive Produce Series JOE EXOTIC Based on Podcast

Kate McKinnon (SNL, Yesterday) is set to executive produce and star in the upcoming series Joe Exotic, based on the popular Wondery podcast of the same name. McKinnon was also recently hired to star in the podcast adaptation series The Dropout at Hulu that will chronicle the disgraced Theranos founder, Elizabeth Holmes, whom McKinnon will portray. Variety provides the following rundown for Joe Exotic:

In “Joe Exotic,” big cat enthusiast Carole Baskin (McKinnon) learns that fellow exotic animal lover, Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel is breeding and using his big cats for profit. She sets out to shut down his venture, inciting a quickly escalating rivalry. But Carole has a checkered past of her own, and when the claws come out, Joe will stop at nothing to expose her hypocrisy. The results prove deadly.

These are great projects McKinnon is picking up, straying from her typically humorous roles, and going for more dramatic. I’m excited to see both of these and to check out the podcasts as well. Have you listened to either of these podcasts? Do you think McKinnon is a good match?
