SNOWPIERCER TV Show Coming From AVATAR Sequel Writer
All aboard: THR reports that Bong Joon-ho's Snowpiercer is being adapted into a TV show by Josh Friedman, the showrunner of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and screenwriter behind The Black Dahlia, Spielberg's War of the Worlds, and a couple of the upcoming Avatar sequels. Whether the show will take place before or after the events of the film has yet to be revealed, but common sense would dictate that this will be a prequel to the movie.
The film took place after an Ice Age destroyed all life on Earth except for those who are on a special train that's constantly circling the globe. A class system formed with a rich, opulent first class and a cramped and dirty lower class, and the story follows an uprising of the poor as they fight their way forward to confront those in charge.
Marty Edelstein, Becky Clements, Bong, Chan-wook Park, and feature co-producer Dooho Choi will executive produce. There's no word yet about who will star in the show, but considering the level of talent associated with the film — people like Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, Jamie Bell, Octavia Spencer, and more — it seems wildly unlikely that they'll return to reprise their roles.
"I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity," Friedman said. "Marty and Becky are the perfect partners to help me bring this world to TV. I’m a huge fan of director Bong’s films, especially Snowpiercer. It’s great the way the best sci-fi is great — thoughtful, political, funny, scary and sly. And it’s on a train. A big f—ing train. What more could you want?"
What do you think? Does a Snowpiercer show sound like a good idea?
