Snyder and Affleck on the Consequences of MAN OF STEEL in BATMAN V SUPERMAN
One of the biggest complaints among fanboys and fangirls about Zack Snyder's Man of Steel was the complete obliteration of Metropolis. Fans of Superman also weren't too thrilled with their favorite character snapping General Zod's neck at the film's climax.
Snyder defends his end of the movie though, and in a recent interview with EW he talks about the consequences of what happened and how it affects Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the rest of the DC cinematic universe. Here's what Snyder had to say:
“I was surprised because that’s the thesis of Superman for me, that you can’t just have superheroes knock around and have there be no consequences. There are other superhero movies where they joke about how basically no one’s getting hurt. That’s not us. What is that message? That’s it’s okay that there’s this massive destruction with zero consequence for anyone?”
Ben Affleck goes on to reveal that one of the buildings destroyed in Man of Steel, did in fact, belong to Bruce Wayne. It is the death of some of his employees that will lead to his showdown with the Superman.
“One of the things I liked was Zack’s idea of showing accountability and the consequences of violence and seeing that there are real people in those buildings. And in fact, one of those buildings was Bruce Wayne’s building so he knew people who died in that Black Zero event.”
Of course there has to be consequences for the mass destruction that Superman and Zod caused during their insane battle. It's good to know that Batman is going to bring the fight and the pain to him. You can't let Superman get away with that kind of madness!
We are going to get to see some new footage of the film next week at Comic-Con during the big Warner Bros. panel. If you're going to be at Comic-Con, it's a panel you will not want to miss!
Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and Jason Momoa will be playing Aquaman. Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane will reprise their roles from Man of Steel, and Holly Hunter will be playing a U.S. Senator.
