Sofía Vergara to Play Drug Queenpin Griselda Blanco in Netflix Limited Series GRISELDA
Emmy-nominated Modern Family actress Sofía Vergara has signed on to play drug queenpin Griselda Blanco in the upcoming limited series Griselda at Netflix. “The series chronicles the real life of savvy and ambitious Colombian business woman who created one of the most profitable drug cartels in history. A devoted mother, Blanco’s lethal blend of charm and unsuspecting savagery helped her expertly navigate between family and business leading her to become widely known as the Black Widow and the Cocaine Godmother.”
The show will consist of six 50-minute episodes. Many of the creative team who worked on the popular Netflix series Narcos is on board to bring Griselda to life, which had many speculating as to whether this series would be a spin-off of Narcos. But that theory has been shut down. Ingrid Escajeda serves as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner, with Escajeda co-writing the first episode with EP Doug Miro. Andrés Baiz will also executive produce and direct all six episodes.
Vergara said of the character:
“Griselda Blanco was a larger-than-life character whose ruthless but ingenious tactics allowed her to rule a billion dollar empire years before many of the most notorious male kingpins we know so much about. We are thrilled to have found the perfect partners in Eric, Andrés and Netflix to help us bring this story of her life to the screen.”
This sounds like an interesting story, and I’m interested in seeing Vergara in the more dramatic role. Will you be checking out Griselda?
