Soleil Moon Frye Bringing Her Own Home Footage to Hulu in Documentary KID 90 About Teen Stars in the 90s

Actress Soleil Moon Frye is best known for her childhood role in the 1984-1988 TV series, Punky Brewster. She went on to appear in episodes of other popular series in the 80s and 90s like The Wonder Years, Saved By the Bell, and Tiny Toon Adventures, then returned with a role in the series Sabrina the Teenage Witch. She has since done a lot of voice acting, and is now working on her return to TV with the Peacock reboot of Punky Brewster.

We have now learned that the actress also has another surprising project in the works. When Frye was a child and teen, acting and growing up in Hollywood, she was friends with many other young actors, and she took videos so often that she has a treasure trove of footage that has never been viewed. She recently decided to dig it all out and see what she had. Beside reminiscing, she realized she had enough compelling footage for a full-length documentary.

She told THR:

“I often wondered if things had happened the way that I remembered them and I finally decided to unlock the vault. What started as a documentary about my friends and our lives soon became a coming-of-age story about myself that has changed me forever.”

The documentary, titled KID 90, is “composed from hundreds of hours of footage from that decade, it is said to serve as a blueprint of Frye’s life and includes videos along with voicemails, audio recordings and diary entries she had also preserved.” The doc features interviews with lifelong friends David Arquette, Balt Getty, Brian Austin Green, Stephen Dorff and Mark-Paul Gosselaar, and others, and also features never-before-seen footage of Harold Hunter, Justin Pierce, Danny Boy O’Connor, Jenny Lewis, Jonathan Brandis, and many others. Another longtime friend of the actress, singer Linda Perry, is on board to create the original score.

This sounds pretty interesting. I like documentaries, and I was a fan of many of these people in the 90s. No word yet on when the doc will hit Hulu, but I bet it will be a cathartic experience for Frye to complete. Are you interested in checking out KID 90?
