Soleil Moon Frye Set to Star in PUNKY BREWSTER Revival Series

If you’re not sick of sitcoms being revived or rebooted, then I’ve got good news for you. UCP is developing what appears to be a revival of the classic 1984 sitcom Punky Brewster complete with original star Soleil Moon Frye reprising her role.

The revival will see Punky “is now a single mother of three trying to get her life back on track when she meets a young girl who reminds her a lot of her younger self.” Here’s a quick synopsis of the original:

Punky Brewster is a child who has been abandoned by her parents. Taken in by crusty Chicago photographer Henry Warnimont, Punky and her dog, Brandon, teach Henry how to lighten up. Cherie and Allen are two of Punky’s friends.

Jim and Steve Armogida are writing this sequel series and serving as executive producers along with Frye, David W. Duclon, and Jimmy Fox. The original series was created by Duclon and ran for four seasons.

What are your thoughts on the Punky Brewster revival? Do you think the continuation will do as well as the original?
