Some Details Revealed for Four MAGIC: THE GATHERING Sets Coming in 2020
Magic: The Gathering has already revealed four sets that will be released during 2020. Mark Rosewater took some time during a recent Twitch stream to talk about these new sets. The first set will be Theros: Beyond Death which will take players back to the plane of Theros which was first introduced in 2013. Theros is inspired by Greek mythology and features mortals living in fear of the whims of the gods.
The next set will be Ikoria: Lair of the Behemoths which will feature a brand-new place for Magic. The plane is one of monsters and according to ComicBook.com, Rosewater said “that players will be able to make their own monsters with cards from the set.” I’m not entirely certain what that could mean, but it is definitely intriguing.
Third, Core 2021 will be released and the focus for 2021 will be on Teferi. Teferi is the hero of Dominaria and uses magic to manipulate time. Fans are thinking this means we’ll see more planeswalker cards for Teferi as we did with Chandra in Core 2020.
Finally, the new Standard rotation will start with Zendikar Rising. The Zendikar plane was first introduced in 2009 with a sequel block in 2015 and features various races of elves, humans, kor, merfolk, and vampires.
Which of these sets are you getting excited for? The 2019 rotation will begin this October with Throne of Eldraine. I’ve included the trailer for that set below and it may or may not have you upset with Garruk Wildspeaker.
