Some of Eddie Munson's Best Lines in STRANGER THINGS Were Improvised Including His Heartbreaking Final Words

Last season of Stranger Things was super epic! It was by far the darkest season of the show, and that’s saying something for a series about supernatural beings that kidnap people. It moved the story along, giving us more insight into Eleven’s past and her connection to the Upside Down. We were introduced to a couple of new characters in season 4, and none of them was more beloved than the mullet sporting, weed-selling, guitar shredding, D&D Dungeon Master, Eddie Munson, played by the charming Joseph Quinn.

And as it turns out, Quinn was so dialed into the character, he was allowed a little improvisation on the show, and some of Eddie’s best lines were a result of that. In a July 2, 2022 Twitter/X post from the writers of Stranger Things, fans learned that Eddie’s last words in his heartbreaking final scene in the season 4 finale were actually improvised by Quinn. As he laid dying in Dustin’s arms, he told the boy who had become he best friend, “I love you, man.” It was such a tearjerker moment!

On that same post, someone asked if he also improvised the comedic scene in the bus with Robin and Steve, where Robin ran up to Eddie in the driver’s seat, and said, “Eddie, I’m not sure I love the idea of you driving,” and Eddie said, “Oh, I’m starting this sucker,” then he looked at Steve, and lovingly said, “Harrington’s got her, don’tcha big boy?” It’s a classic scene, and it’s just another reason to love both Eddie Munson and Joseph Quinn!

I do hope there’s something to the rumors that Eddie has a possibility of returning next season. I would love to see him again in the role. But if season 4 is his final fate, he made his mark, and he went out a hero. I can’t wait to see what the actor does next.
