Cool Props The Stars of HARRY POTTER Took From Set; Rupert Grint Says He Stole One in a "Very Shady" Way
If you were a star in one of the most popular film franchises of all time, you’d absolutely want to take a few pieces of memorabilia home with you when shooting was done, especially if you’d spent a good portion of your childhood on these sets, and had the fondest of memories making the movies. This was the case for actors Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley; Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger; and Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter.
In a recent fan Q&A for British GQ, Grint said:
“[I kept] quite a few things actually. I have the tie that you get before you get sorted into your house. And my Gryffindor tie.”
The Servant star recalled that security measures were enhanced during the final films. So he had to get creative in collecting some of his souvenirs.
“The last days of shooting, there was security… they were hot. So they didn’t really want you to steal anything. But I did get away with a few things. I took Harry’s door number of Privet Drive. I had to unscrew it with a little piece of gravel. Very shady actually.”
The actor noted that he also kept a part of a chess piece. And he also snagged the gift Dumbledore gave Ron, a magical light controller called a deluminator.
Back in 2010, Emma Watson told Collider:
“I asked for permission to take Hermione’s time-turner from the third movie, and the cloak, and my wand. So those are my three things that I took with me.”
Of course she asked permission. How very Hermione of her. Daniel Radcliffe also took a few items, and one of them is really weird… In a 2022 interview with BBC Radio 1, the actor explained:
“I’ve got a bunch of stuff from Potter. I’ve got actually somewhere … in my parent’s house, I guess, maybe in the attic … a prosthetic arm that was molded for me in the scene where Harry lost all the bones in his arm. So I’ve got a big, floppy arm in my attic. And also a mold of my face that was taken when I was 10 or 11, which looks like a death mask.”
I bet most cast members made off with a memento or two. It’s fun to hear what was special to them. If you were a cast member of Harry Potter, what would you have taken from the set?
