Sony and Marvel Team Back Up and Will Make a Third SPIDER-MAN Film Together!
Great news, everybody! Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have made up and have found a way to continue to work with each other! The Disney and Sony made a joint announcement that Marvel Studios and its President, Kevin Feige, will produce the third film in the Spider-Man series that they started together! Amy Pascal will also produce through Pascal Pictures, as she has on Homecoming and Far From Home.
As part of the arrangement, “Spider-Man will also appear in a future Marvel Studios film.” Tom Holland will obviously reprise his role. Feige had this to say in a statement:
“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”
There are no details on what agreement they made, but regardless, it’s awesome and exciting to see that Marvel and Sony will continue to work with Spider-Man together for at least two more film projects that include a solo film and a future Marvel movie.
After that… who knows what will happen. If these are the last projects that Marvel has to work with the character, it gives them time to close out Spider-Man’s story arc in the MCU before he eventually leaves for good.
The third Spider-Man film is scheduled for release on July 16, 2021.
