Sony Drops First Look at PS5 Controller

Sony has finally done something with the PS5 besides say how awesome it’s supposed to be. They dropped a picture of the new PS5 controller and gave us some more details! The controller looks pretty cool, and it’s white!? Could this mean that the PS5 won’t be a sleek black? The controller is also being called the DualSense controller and claims to bring “a new feeling of immersion to players.”

I’m a little confused because PlayStation says that it’s adopting haptic feedback for the DualSense, but I was under the impression that rumble was a form of haptic feedback and that’s been included since at least the PS2. Am I mistaken?

One thing that does sound really awesome is the adaptive triggers in L2 and R2. These will in theory help you feel things like tension while pulling back a bowstring. In addition, the DualSense features a built-in microphone, meaning there’s less of a need for a headset (although your teammates will thank you for still using one).

Jim Ryan, President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment released the following statement:

DualSense marks a radical departure from our previous controller offerings and captures just how strongly we feel about making a generational leap with PS5. The new controller, along with the many innovative features in PS5, will be transformative for games – continuing our mission at PlayStation to push the boundaries of play, now and in the future. To the PlayStation community, I truly want to thank you for sharing this exciting journey with us as we head toward PS5’s launch in Holiday 2020. We look forward to sharing more information about PS5, including the console design, in the coming months.
