Sony Executive Amy Pascal Admits She Was "Super Resentful" of Marvel's SPIDER-MAN Plans
Spider-Man was going through some rough times at Sony Pictures before they started working with Marvel Studios. While they are working well together now, that always wasn’t the case. In fact Sony executive and producer Amy Pascal was initially "super resentful" of Marvel’s plans with the character and the first meeting with Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige did not go well at all.
In an excerpt from the book The Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it says, "Pascal wasted no time in expressing her strong desire to have Feige be more directly involved, creatively, in the making of Sony Pictures' The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Excited about the ideas her team currently had, Pascal said she would send Feige the latest draft."
Feige responded, telling her that their ideas for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 were not going to work and he used the opportunity to suggest an alternative plan… that Marvel would handle. This did not sit well with Psacel and she lashed out at Feige. She admitted in the book:
"At first, I was super resentful. I think I started crying and threw him out of my office, or threw a sandwich at him – I'm not sure which... By the fifth movie, we weren't giving them anything new. And I have to be honest about it, we were trying so hard to be different, we even went into places to be different that we shouldn't have."
That sounds like it was one hell of an intense meeting! Thankfully, the two eventually worked out their differences and found themselves working together. This led to the casting of Tom Holland and his debut in Captain America: Civil War. The road they’ve taken this version of Spider-Man on has been quite and awesome journey, and we get to see that journey continue in Spider-Man: No Way Home!
