Sony is Developing a KRAVEN THE HUNTER Movie with The Writer of THE EQUALIZER 2
Sony Pictures is moving forward with their Kraven the Hunter Marvel film as they've reportedly hired The Equalizer 2 screenwriter Richard Wenk to write the script. Wenk is a decent writer that has also written films such as Jack Reacher, 16 Blocks, The Magnificent Seven and Expendables 2. Seems like a good choice to take on Kraven.
Kraven the Hunter is such an interesting character and it's great to see that Sony is getting serious about making a film that revolves around him. But like the rest of these Spider-Man spinoff films that they are developing, the fact that Spider-Man isn't involved is still a little off-putting. I'd much rather see these films with Spider-Man involved! Personally, I was hoping to see Kraven in one of Marvel Studios' Spider-Man films. Who knows, there's always a chance we could see Kraven faceoff with Venom.
I imagine the future of any of these Marvel films being developed by Sony will hinge on the success of Venom. If Venom bombs at the box office, I'm sure that Sony will end up re-evaluating their Marvel movie plans. If Venom is a success, though, you can bet they are going to move fast on these other Marvel projects like Silver and Black and Morbius The Living Vampire. In case you want a little refresher on Kraven, here ya go:
Kraven was a maniacal big game hunter who sought to defeat Spider-Man to prove that he was the greatest hunter in the world. Unlike other hunters, he typically disdained the use of guns or bow and arrows preferring to take down large dangerous animals with his bare hands even though he often made elaborate preparations to weaken a quarry before hand. He also used a mystical serum to give him similar strength to Spider-Man, but even without the serum he was a threat to the wall-crawler. However, Kraven's continual underestimation of the superhero's resourcefulness made him a frustrating quarry.
What are your thoughts on Sony Pictures developing a Kraven The Hunter movie without Spider-Man? Do you think it'll work?
