Sony is Developing a MADAME WEB Movie Set in Their Spider-Man Cinematic Universe
Sony Pictures is developing another Marvel film based on Madame Web, who is a supporting character from the Spider-Man universe. Madame Web is an old blind woman who has the power to see the future, and according to Collider, the studio has hired writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless to write the script. They wrote the upcoming film Morbius and also worked on Dracula Untold, The Last Witch Hunter, Gods of Egypt, and Netflix’s new Lost in Space.
The character was created by writer Denny O’Neil and artist John Romita Jr., and Madame Web first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #210, in November 1980. “Known as Cassandra Webb, she is usually depicted as an elderly blind woman suffering from a chronic neuromuscular disease that makes it difficult to move and breathe, and as such, she’s connected to a life support system that looks like a spider web. The clairvoyant character has precognitive abilities and once helped Spider-Man find a kidnap victim.”
Over the years, the character has also appeared in Spider-Man video games and the Spider-Man animated series.
Madame Web is certainly an interesting character to base a movie on, and the movie will be a part of the Spider-Man cinematic universe that Sony is in the process of building.
It’ll be interesting to see how this character is handled and how she will ultimately fit in with what Sony is looking to do with all these characters. With Tom Holland’s Spider-Man back at Sony I’m sure we’ll start seeing him spread across some of these films that are being produced.
What do you all think about Madame Web getting her own movie?
