Sony Pictures CEO Wants To Remake THE PRINCESS BRIDE and Cary Elwes Has The Perfect Response
Hollywood and their remakes and reboots and reimaginings… they’ve always been around and they will always be around. It’s a never ending vicious cycle of lack of creativity and cash grabs.
There are certain films, though, that are sacred and should never be touched. One of those film’s is Rob Reiner’s The Princess Bride. It’s rare to come by someone who has never seen the film and it’s even more rare to come across someone that didn’t like it!
Well, some Hollywood executives have no shame. The CEO of Sony Pictures, Tony Vinciquerra, recently suggested that a remake of The Princess Bride is in discussions and that there are several “very famous people” interested in redoing the film, which is based on the novel by William Goldman. Vinciquerra told Variety:
“We have so many people coming to us saying, ‘We want to remake this show or that show. Very famous people whose names I won’t use, but they want to redo ‘The Princess Bride.”
Well, they just need to take that idea, strap it to The Machine in the pit of despair and torture it until it goes away. There’s no word on who these “famous people” are, but there’s really no point in remaking an already perfect film. This movie is sacred ground for a lot of people and I imagine if a remake of the film did move forward, it would be a disappointing a devastating blow.
The film’s star, Cary Elwes, caught wind of the news on Twitter, and had the perfect response to the remake:
There’s a shortage of perfect movies in this world. It would be a pity to damage this one. https://t.co/5N8Q3P2e5G

As of right now nothing is officially moving forward with a Princess Bride remake, but there is obviously some kind of movement going on. Hopefully, it doesn’t gain any traction.
What do you think about The Princess Bride possibly being remade?
