Sony Pictures Head Hopes Their SPIDER-MAN Deal with Disney/Marvel Will Continue For a Long Time

Sony Pictures and Disney/Marvel have done some great things together with Spider-Man. Things got a little worrisome there for a bit when it looked like the two parties were going to split. Luckily they ended up coming back together with a new deal where they will continue to share Spider-Man with one more solo film and an MCU movie. But, the head of Sony, Tom Rotham, hopes that their relationship will continue for years to come.

During a recent roundtable discussion, both Rothman and Disney's Alan Horn discussed what happened when it looked like Spidey was leaving the MCU. Horn said:

"The fanbase, which is important to all of us, seemed to really respond to what Tom [Holland] and [the ‘Spider-Man’ crew] had done before. And they like it. They like the fact that the MCU and Kevin Feige were involved. And we heard feedback out there that suggested joining forces once again was probably a really good idea."

That’s when Rotham was asked if the partnership could continue beyond the current deal and he said what everyone wants to hear:

"I hope so," he replied. "I think this was a classic win-win-win. I think it was a win for Sony. I think it was a win for Disney. I think it was a win for fans and moviegoers. The only thing I would say about that is that news cycles and the rhythm of negotiations don’t necessarily overlap…I think we would have gotten there and the news got ahead of some things."

Disney and Sony could easily continue to work together as long as they can continue to make deals that both parties will be happy with. Sony is already incorporating major elements from the MCU into their own films, so it seems like some groundwork is being laid for the future. Even if the relationship doesn’t last, at least Marvel and Sony will be able to make a smooth transition for phasing Spider-Man out of the MCU.

What do you think the future of Spider-Man holds in regards to the deal between Sony and Disney?
