Sony Pictures' MORBIUS Movie will Feature Martine Bancroft as the Lead Female Character
Some new information has surfaced in regards to Sony Pictures' upcoming Marvel film Morbius. According to That Hashtag Show, the lead female character in the story will be Martine Bancroft. This is Michael Morbius’ fiancee. She was first introduced in 1971’s The Amazing Spider-Man #102 and she has had a long, twisted history.
Though she was his fiancee, Bancroft also became one of Morbius’ first victims and became a vampire herself. She’s been dead and resurrected more than once and has some interesting connections to some characters that we think Sony might be able to use should the decide to go forward with additional Morbius‘ films.
Bancroft is such a big part of Morbius' life, it was expected that she would play a major wole in the film.
Jared Leto has been cast as Morbius a.k.a. Dr. Michael Morbius, "a scientist who suffered from a rare blood disease and attempted to cure himself to disastrous results. Instead of being cured, he became afflicted with a condition that was a form of vampirism — the thirst for blood, along with fangs and super strength — and fought Spider-Man. Over time, however, he became a slightly heroic figure in his own right and even headlined his own comic book titles."
The movie has been described as a horror action story that will follow Morbius who is disgusted by his own bloodlust, so he chooses to prey upon criminals he deems unworthy of life." So, it's like a vampire version of Dexter! This seems like it will be a great part for Leto to take on. It's not hard to imagine him as a vampire.
The film will be directed by Daniel Espinosa, the filmmaker who previously helmed Safe House and last year's sci-fi thriller Life. The script is being written by Lost in Space scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.
