Sony Pictures Pulls MADAME WEB Out of Theaters as It Flops Harder Than MORBIUS
After only five weekends in theaters, Sony Pictures has thrown in the towel on Madame Web, and they’ve pulled it from theaters. The movie was met with the worst reviews and a very disappointing box office run. In fact, the movie was a bigger flop than Morbius.
Madame Web wrapped up its theatrical run with only $43 million in North America, which is $30 million less than what Morbius made in 2022. This was a rough one for Sony, and it could’ve been avoided had those executives over at Sony, like Tom Rotham, made better decisions. That studio needs some smarter people with common sense making decisions.
They’ve got Kraven the Hunter and Venom: The Last Dance coming up next, and with Sony’s track record with their live-action Marvel movie, I’m not expecting much from them. It’s so crazy to me that they’ve learned nothing from their mistakes over the years.
Madame Web arrived on Digital last week and, as expected, has become ridiculed on social media ever since.
Madame Web lead Dakota Johnson has said she's “not surprised that this has gone down the way it has." She added: "It was definitely an experience for me to make [Madame Web]. I had never done anything like it before. I probably will never do anything like it again because I don’t make sense in that world. And I know that now."
She went on to say: "But sometimes in this industry, you sign on to something, and it’s one thing and then as you’re making it, it becomes a completely different thing, and you’re like, 'Wait, what?' But it was a real learning experience, and of course it’s not nice to be a part of something that’s ripped to shreds, but I can’t say that I don’t understand."
The executive team at Sony Pictures in charge of making decisions needs an overhaul.
