Sony Pictures Sure Did Drop The Ball on That First Trailer For VENOM

Marvel fans have been very curious about this new Venom film that Sony Pictures has been developing with director Ruben Fleischer and Tom Hardy. We've all been patiently waiting for the first trailer to drop to see what exactly they have in store for us. Fans have been wondering if they would actually be able to pull this film off without Marvel's involvement. After all, Marvel was the brains and talent behind bringing Spider-Man back to greatness.

Sony Pictures really needed to impress the fans with their first Venom trailer. They needed to show us that they got this handled, that they could bring us the same level of excitement that Marvel does. This was their chance to win the fans over and get us excited for their Venom movie! But... unfortunately, they dropped the ball.

I know the first trailer released was a teaser, but the teaser didn't generate any excitement! I was left with an empty disappointment. They didn't even tease the look of Venom and that was a must. I'm shocked that they didn't include even a brief tease of the character. Did the studio forget how to make a proper teaser? Hell, even the teaser trailer for Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, the worst film in the trilogy, gave fans something awesome and exciting to talk about!

In Theaters: 4 May 2007 (UK) Peter Parker has finally managed to piece together the once-broken parts of his life, maintaining a balance between his relationship with Mary-Jane and his responsibility as Spider-Man. But more challenges arise for our young hero.

There was nothing like that. Nothing to build the excitement for what is to come. It was just a bland teaser that left fans thinking, "What the hell was that?!" I have yet to see anyone say anything positive about the Venom teaser trailer. That's not what you want to happen! You want the fans to be excited! You want the fans to at least be talking about how freakin' cool Venom looks! Not about how much Tom Hardy is brooding. We can't even talk about the story because this trailer seriously gives us nothing.

Even the fan-made trailers for the film are better than the actual trailer that sony released! Here's one that I really liked that manages to actually build some excitement...

Impressed to hear that both Tom Hardy and Ruben Fleischer are involved in next years Venom stand alone movie. I've got high hopes for this film. Thanks to Rupert Degas for the awesome voiceover.

All they had to do was impress us! It's a shame that we didn't get the teaser trailer we were hoping for. But, it's all we've got until the studio decides to release another trailer. Hopefully, when they do, it will be a lot better the one they released today.

What are your thoughts on the teaser trailer that was released? Is there anything you'd like to add to my little rant?
