Sony Will Reportedly Start Production on The SPIDER-MAN Spinoff Movie MADAME WEB Soon
It looks like Sony Pictures is already pretty far along in the development of its Spider-Man spinoff film Madame Web. In fact, according to superhero movie insider Charles Murphy, the studio is set to start production on it this year!
Murphy shared in a tweet that it "sounds like Sony is planning to get Madame Web going this year," and then adds, "Have a location but no dates yet."
The last thing we heard about the project was that director S.J. Clarkson, who helmed episodes of Marvel’s Jessica Jones and The Defenders, might be developing the project, which has yet to be confirmed. It’s also been reported that Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless were hired to write the script. They also wrote the upcoming film, Morbius.
Madame Web is an old blind woman who has the power to see the future. She was created by writer Denny O’Neil and artist John Romita Jr., and first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #210, in November, 1980. “Known as Cassandra Webb, she is usually depicted as an elderly blind woman suffering from a chronic neuromuscular disease that makes it difficult to move and breathe, and as such, she’s connected to a life support system that looks like a spider web. The clairvoyant character has precognitive abilities and once helped Spider-Man find a kidnap victim.”
This is an interesting character and I’m curious to see who ends up being cast in the role. If they are looking to start shooting this year, they might have already cast someone and now we’re just waiting for the big reveal. It has been reported in the past that Sony is looking for an A-list actor. Are there any actors that you’d like to see take on the lead role in the film?
