Sony's Long-Term Goal For Spider-Man and Venom Will Reportedly Lead To a Sinister Six Movie
A lot of fans have bene wondering what Sony Pictures is planning for the future of Spider-Man when the character ends up leaving MCU. With Venom: Let There Be Carnage coming out, all the press is really asking the talent about is if Venom and Spider-Man will eventually crossover, and yeah, of course it’s going to happen one day. In fact, according to Deadline’s Anthony D'Alessandro, Sony’s long term goal leads to a Sinister Six movie. During a recent interview with the Hero Nation Podcast, D'Alessandro said:
"Sony's always kept, outside of the new Spider-Man stuff they're doing with Disney/MCU, Sony's always kept their Marvel stuff separate. With this Venom (the upcoming Let There Be Carnage) they're actually going to connect to the Spider-Man universe they're setting up with Disney/MCU. I know one of their long-term goals is to make Sinister Six, and that's kind of the project we're all waiting for, their version of the bad guys from the Spider-Man (universe)."
There have been reports that the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home movie will feature a version of The Sinister Six made up of villains from alternate universes. That includes Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus, Jamie Foxx as Electro, possibly Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin, and even Thomas Hayden Church as Sandman, Rhys Ifans as the Lizard, and Paul Giamatti as Rhino have been rumored but not confirmed.
Who knows, though. That may not be what is happening and Sony may have other plans for The Sinister Six. Marvel’s Daredevil series creator Drew Goddard was hired to write and direct a Sinister Six film years ago, but I don’t believe that project is happening anymore. Of course, that doesn’t mean that they don’t have another project being planned with this team of Spider-Man villains.
Sony has a lot of great characters and stories to work with and I just hope that when they take full control back of Spider-Man, they actually continue to utilize him in smart and creative ways.
