Sony's Marvel Film MADAME WEB Casts GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE Star Celeste O'Connor
Ghostbusters: Afterlife actress Celeste O’Connor is set to star alongside Dakota Johnson in Sony’s upcoming Marvel film project Madame Web. A lot of fans seem confused that this film is being made, but it’s happening, and hopefully it’ll be good. But, Sony doesn’t have the best track record with these live-action Marvel films when Marvel Studios isn’t involved.
The film is said to be an origin story for Madame Web, “a clairvoyant whose psychic abilities allow her to see within the spider world itself.” In the comics, Madame Web is “an elderly blind woman suffering from a chronic neuromuscular disease that makes it difficult to move and breathe, and as such, she’s connected to a life support system that looks like a spider web. The clairvoyant character has precognitive abilities and once helped Spider-Man find a kidnap victim.”
S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones and The Defenders) is directing the film, with Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless writing the script, which is unfortunate. These are the two guys that wrote Morbius, which is easily one of the worst films of the year. After watching Morbius, I’m not expecting much from the script on Madame Web.
With this being Sony’s first Marvel film to feature a woman in the lead role, you’d hope that they’d actually take great care in getting this film right. But, it’ll most likely be a big disappointment. I hope they prove me wrong.
Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria) is also set to star in the film. There are no details on who O’Connor or Sweeny are playing in the film.
