Sounds Like Guy Ritchie's Live-Action Adaptation of Disney's ALADDIN Will Be a Musical
Guy Ritchie has never made a musical before, so when he was hired to direct Disney's live-action adaptation of Aladdin, I wasn't sure if the musical aspect of the story would play into the film. Well, it sounds like it will be and it should be fun to see how Ritchie's filmmaking style works as a musical. While talking to CinemaBlend, the director was asked if the movie would be a musical and this is what he said:
"I think it'd be tough not to make it a musical. It's too early because I've really just immersed myself into that project. So, I'm still looking for cast members, we still haven't found exactly which direction we are going in. I'm confident at some stage, it will reveal itself to me."
Ritchie still has a long way to go as he is currently in early development on the movie. I'm curious to see how this movie comes together. It seems like a great and different kind of project for Ritchie to take on and it really wouldn't be Aladdin without all the classic musical numbers such as "Prince Ali," "Arabian Nights," and, of course, "A Whole New World".
A few weeks ago it was reported that Will Smith was in talks to play the Genie in the movie. Now try to imagine Smith singing the song "Friend Like Me". I actually think he could pull it off!
