Sounds Like Neill Blomkamp's ALIEN 5 May Not Happen
District 9 and Chappie director Neill Blomkamp has been trying to get an Alien sequel off the ground for a few years, and he was pretty close to launching Alien 5 (a film that was supposed to ignore the events of Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection) with Sigourney Weaver reprising her iconic role as Ellen Ripley...but then, Ridley Scott's sequel to Prometheus (now known as Alien: Covenant) became a top priority for 20th Century Fox, and Blomkamp's project lost its momentum.
Still, the script has the approval of Weaver and Aliens director James Cameron, so you'd think that'd count for something. We assumed it'd be a while before we got to see the movie come to life, but thanks to a tweet from Blomkamp himself, the entire project is being called into question. When someone asked him what the chances are of his Alien project happening, Blomkamp responded:
Not exactly what excited fans wanted to hear. But hey, at least Alien: Covenant looks pretty good, right?
