SPACEBALLS 2 Reveals Full Cast with a Photo That Calls Back To THE FORCE AWAKENS

When Spaceballs hit theaters back in 1987, there were only three Star Wars movies. Since then, the galaxy far, far away has exploded with films, TV shows, and endless parodies.

But through it all, Spaceballs remained one of a kind. That changes soon, as Spaceballs 2 is officially moving forward with filming and a planned 2027 release. Even better, the film has assembled an incredible cast, and the reveal couldn’t have been done in a more perfect way.

To mark the start of production, Amazon MGM Studios dropped a black-and-white photo showing the cast and crew gathered for a table read.

Fans will instantly recognize the setup, since the photo pays homage to the iconic first look at the cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In the shot, you can even spot some cool props in the background that hint at what’s to come.

The lineup is packed with comedy talent. Alongside the returning Mel Brooks and Rick Moranis, we’ll see Bill Pullman, Lewis Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Anthony Carrigan, and George Wyner.

Seeing Moranis back at the table is a thrill in itself. He’s been away from the spotlight for years, and his return makes this sequel feel even more special.

Amazon MGM Studios is keeping the story under wraps, but they couldn’t resist dropping a hilarious “official” description: “A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two’ but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film.”

Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) is directing, with producers Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, Gad, Brooks, and Greenbaum.

It’s been nearly four decades since the first Spaceballs, but seeing this cast together is exciting. I hope this ends up being a wild new adventure that honors what came before while bringing in a fresh wave of comedy talent.
