SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE Will Include 240 Characters and Take Place in 6 Universes

Holly crap! Sony’s Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is going to be an insanely epic film! If you thought Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was awesome, just wait until you get a load of the sequel!

Producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller showed up at CinemaCon to promote the upcoming film and hype the hell out of it! They teased that this movie is going to be “way, way, way bigger,” and they went on to explain how.

First - Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse has the biggest crew of any animated film ever, with over 1,000 people working on it!

Second - The original movie featured 40 characters. The sequel will feature 240 characters!

Third - The story for this film will span across 6 universes!

On top of that, they also showed the CinemaCon attendees the first fifteen minutes of the film, and we were there to see it! This first 15-minutes is an incredible start to what is sure to be another incredibly awesome movie!

The footage starts out on Earth-65 and puts the focus on Gwen Stacy a.k.a. Spider-Woman (Hailee Steinfeld). She’s going through some issues with her dad, who’s a cop trying to take down Spider-Woman, who he doesn’t know is his daughter.

While they are talking, there’s an attack in the city involving Adrian Toomes a.k.a. Vulture, who is wreaking havoc at the Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan. Her dad takes off in hopes Spider-Woman shows up so he can catch her, and Gwen swings into action to face off with Vulture and stop him.

It’s complete chaos, and as Gwen is fighting Vulture, he gets the upper hand, and when he is about to take her down, she sarcastically says, “This is the dumbest way to die.” Then, right as he takes a swing at her, Miguel O’Hara a.k.a. Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac) jumps through a portal into her dimension and saves her.

He’s not very happy with Gwen because she “left a hole wide enough for guys like him [Vulture] to get shot into the wrong dimension.” As they are fighting Vulture and talking, he calls in for some backup through his holographic assistant, Lyla, and Jessica Drew a.k.a. Spider-Woman (Issa Rae) jumps into action from another universe to help out! Oh, and Jessica is five months pregnant!

After they stop Vulture and take him down, Gwen is taking a breather when her dad shows up with his gun drawn ready to arrest her for the murder of Peter Parker. As things get tense and heated, Gwen unmasks herself and reveals her true identity.

She pleads with her dad, saying, “I didn't know it was him! I’m not a murderer… I'm your daughter.” Captain Stacy begins to read her her rights and is ready to arrest her. It’s a very emotional moment as you are watching a father arrest her daughter, and she just looks completely defeated and she can’t believe what is happening.

Spider-Man 2099 and Jessica Drew then jump in and stop Captain Stacy by trapping him in a force field bubble of sorts. Drew doesn't want to leave Gwen behind and as Miguel opens a portal he ends up giving her a temporal wrist device. Gwen looks at it and considers going with them when all of a sudden, the footage cuts to BROOKLYN in Earth-610.

We then get to see what MIles Morales (Shameik Moore) is up to. He attends a meeting with his parents and his school guidance counselor to discuss his college future, a meeting he is late to. The scene is filled with some amusing family comedy, but when his parents learn that he wants to attend Columbia University, his mom freaks out, because she thinks it’s way too far from their home in Brooklyn.

Morales says, “Columbia is in New York. How is New York far from New York?” As they are discussing these future plans, Morales’ spidey-sense kicks in and he ends up rushing out of the meeting as does his dad because he gets to call that he has to respond to the situation.

As Mrs. Morales prepares to leave the session herself, the counselor looks at her and says in an ominous tone, “He’s lying to you. Your son is lying to you.” That’s where the footage ends.

Damn, it was such fun footage, and I can’t wait to see more! Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is set to be released on June 2nd, 2023.
