SPIDER-MAN: BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE Finds Its Directors with Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson

Sony Animation has confirmed that Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson will return to direct Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, the highly-anticipated conclusion to the Spider-Verse trilogy.

Persichetti and Thompson said in a joint statement: “We have had the immense privilege of being part of Miles’ journey from the very beginning, and directing the conclusion to his story is beyond exciting.

“The creativity and care poured into every minute of this project has been truly inspiring. We have crafted what we feel is a very satisfying ending, and we can’t wait for fans to experience it – we’re bringing everything we’ve got!”

I thought the directors had already been set and that the film has been in development this whole time. It was previously reported that Sony Pictures had “scrapped most of Beyond The Spider-Verse for creative reasons.” Maybe there have been some things going on behind the scenes.

Persichetti previously served as part of the directorial team on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and was an executive producer on its much-lauded sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Thompson served as the production designer on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, where he was instrumental in developing the groundbreaking visual style of the franchise. He then went on to join the directorial team on the sequel.

Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Amy Pascal and Avi Arad return to produce the film, and Jinko Gotoh joins the team as producer. Lord and Miller wrote the script with David Callaham.

Lord and Miller said in a statement: “Bob and Justin’s fingerprints are woven into the DNA of these films, and their passion for Miles’ journey shines through in every frame of his last adventure.

“There is nothing more rewarding than collaborating with creative partners with bold vision and brilliant execution like Bob and Justin.  We are thrilled to work with them once again to create a beautiful and satisfying conclusion to this story.”

Plot details for the final film are being kept under wraps. The last movie, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, ended on such a huge cliffhanger, so fans have been eager to see how the story is going to continue to play out.

The film’s star Jharrel Jerome was previously asked where things currently stand with the long-delayed sequel, and he confirmed he still hasn't been called in to record any lines.

"I haven't, but I also can't really say so much more because, you know, that's such a tight-knit ship. I don't even know much.

“I'm as much in the dark as you, but I'm excited to get back into it and see what they're thinking, especially involving my character. That was such a badass twist to the last one.”

It seems like we’ve still got a long way to go before we see this final film in the Spider-Verse trilogy hit theaters, so we’ve just got to be patient.
