SPIDER-MAN: BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE Shifts Release Date to Late June 2027
Spider-Man fans will need a bit more patience, as Sony has announced a slight delay for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The eagerly awaited threequel is now set to swing into theaters on June 25, 2027, shifting from its previous release date of June 4, 2027.
The Spider-Verse films have proven to be a massive success for Sony, with the first two installments collectively grossing an impressive $1.08 billion worldwide. The groundbreaking original, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, not only wowed audiences but also secured an Oscar for Best Animated Feature. The 2023 sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, maintained that momentum, pushing the animation boundaries even further.
Creating these visually stunning films is no easy task, with each installment pioneering a fresh animation style that demands an extraordinarily awesome level of dedication. During the premiere of Across the Spider-Verse in June 2023, insiders revealed just how intense the production process can get, describing the print as still "wet," with filmmakers tirelessly perfecting the feature until the last possible moment.
In the upcoming Beyond the Spider-Verse, Miles Morales finds himself on the run in a gripping continuation of his multiverse saga. Fans will recall the shocking twist from the previous film’s ending, where Miles encountered a parallel Earth without a Spider-Man where his alternate self has become the villainous Prowler, ruling over a chaotic, lawless New York City. His friends, including fan-favorite Gwen Stacy, may not be able to rescue him this time.
This isn’t the first delay the film has faced. Initially slated for a March 29, 2024 release, Beyond the Spider-Verse was previously postponed due to industry-wide strikes in July 2023.
Directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, the film's screenplay is crafted by David Callam alongside producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Lord and Miller also join Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Jinko Gotoh as producers.
