SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Becomes Fastest Movie Ever to Hit $700 Million at the Domestic Box Office
Spider-Man just pulled off another wild box office feat, and the records are starting to pile up.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially become the fastest movie in history to cross $700 million at the domestic box office. With its third weekend approaching, the Tom Holland-led Marvel movie reached $704.5 million in North America on Wednesday, continuing a theatrical run that has been absolutely massive since opening on July 31.
That $704.5 million domestic total has already pushed Spider-Man: Brand New Day to No. 7 on the all-time North American box office chart. Considering the movie has only been playing for a couple of weeks, there’s still plenty of runway ahead of it.
The international numbers are just as impressive. Brand New Day has earned $1.108 billion overseas, officially passing Spider-Man: No Way Home and its $1.106 billion international haul to become Sony Pictures’ biggest movie ever outside North America.
The film now sits at No. 10 among the highest-grossing movies of all time internationally. Its next major target is a big one. No Way Home, the previous live-action Spider-Man movie, finished its theatrical run with $1.9 billion worldwide following its December 2021 release.
Brand New Day is rapidly closing in on that number, something that would have seemed incredibly difficult when this movie first arrived.
No Way Home had a lot working in its favor. It brought Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield back as their respective versions of Peter Parker alongside Holland, turning the movie into a massive multigenerational Spider-Man event.
It also arrived at a unique moment for theaters, when plenty of moviegoers were returning to the big-screen experience after staying away during the COVID pandemic, and it faced very little serious competition.
Yet Brand New Day is somehow keeping pace with it and breaking some even bigger records along the way.
Holland returns as Peter Parker in the film alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, and Jon Bernthal, with Destin Daniel Cretton directing.
The movie kicked off its record-breaking run with a staggering $360 million domestic opening weekend, surpassing Avengers: Endgame to score the biggest North American opening weekend ever.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day went on to deliver the highest-grossing first week in domestic box office history. It also became the second-fastest movie ever to reach $1 billion worldwide, trailing only Avengers: Endgame.
That kind of performance has turned Spider-Man into one of the major forces driving an unusually strong summer movie season.
The success of Brand New Day, combined with The Odyssey and Toy Story 5, helped push the 2026 summer box office beyond $4 billion this week. It’s only the second summer since the COVID pandemic to reach that mark, following the huge 2023 season fueled by the Barbenheimer phenomenon surrounding Barbie and Oppenheimer.
Now the question becomes just how high Spider-Man: Brand New Day can climb. Crossing No Way Home’s $1.9 billion worldwide total looks increasingly possible, and with Brand New Day still early in its theatrical run, the $2 billion club could be waiting just beyond it.
The movie will face some fresh competition this weekend as Warner Bros. releases The End of Oak Street, starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, while Paramount Animation rolls out PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie.
Neither one is likely to knock the wind out of Spidey’s web shooters just yet. At $704.5 million domestic and more than $1.1 billion internationally, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become a genuine box office monster.
It’s crazy that this movie is doing this after No Way Home seemed like the kind of Spider-Man event that would be nearly impossible to replicate.
