SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Marketing May Have Revealed Grey Hulk’s MCU Debut
One of the more interesting elements about Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the return of Hulk to the streets of New York, and not just any Hulk. Fans are finally getting Savage Hulk back in action, unleashing chaos and destruction in a way we haven’t seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for quite some time.
The latest trailer gave audiences a glimpse of the highly anticipated showdown between Spider-Man and the Green Goliath, but it looks like Sony may have been hiding something right in front of us.
A new discovery from fans suggests that the Hulk featured in the trailer might not be exactly what he seems.
The observation was first shared on X by user @BuiltFromSmash and later highlighted by @MCU_Portal. Sony recently launched the Spidey Tracker website as part of the film’s marketing campaign, and it includes a GIF pulled from the Spider-Man and Hulk confrontation seen in the trailer.
There’s just one very noticeable difference. In the trailer footage, Hulk appears in his traditional green form. In the Spidey Tracker GIF, however, Hulk is grey.
That isn’t a subtle lighting change or a minor color correction issue. Side-by-side comparisons make it clear that Hulk is presented in two completely different colors.
Of course, longtime Marvel fans know this wouldn’t be the first time Sony and Marvel Studios have altered footage to protect major surprises.
During the marketing campaign for Spider-Man: No Way Home, trailers and promotional images were digitally modified to hide the appearances of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Even though their involvement became one of Hollywood’s worst-kept secrets, the studios still went to great lengths to keep the reveal intact until audiences saw the film.
Some viewers believe characters have been digitally removed from the sequence showing Spider-Man facing off against the Hand. But the Hulk situation stands out because it’s so obvious.
If the Spidey Tracker material is accurate, it all but confirms that Grey Hulk will appear in Brand New Day. This would be the first appearance of Grey Hulk in the MCU. Comic readers know that Hulk originally debuted as grey before publishing and color-printing limitations eventually led Marvel to make him green.
Years later, the grey version evolved into an entirely separate Hulk persona known as Joe Fixit, a tougher and more cunning incarnation who worked as a Las Vegas enforcer.
While Brand New Day is expected to lean into street-level storytelling and organized crime elements involving Tombstone, Joe Fixit seems like a stretch at this point. The film appears to be setting up something very different.
One detail from the trailer may offer a clue. Just before the footage cuts to Savage Hulk confronting Spider-Man, there’s a shot of Sadie Sink’s mysterious character extending her arms as if she's using some kind of power. There’s no confirmation the moments are directly connected, but fans have been speculating.
Theories range from Sink playing Jean Grey to some kind of Wanda Maximoff variant. If her character possesses telepathic or reality-altering abilities, she could potentially be influencing Hulk’s mind, amplifying his rage, or even triggering a transformation into a new form.
That possibility becomes even more interesting when considering that mutated DNA reportedly plays a major role in the film’s story. Promotional footage has already revealed that Bruce Banner is wearing an inhibitor designed to suppress Hulk. If that safeguard fails or is removed, the consequences could be far more dangerous than anyone expects.
Whether Grey Hulk turns out to be a temporary transformation, a completely new persona, or part of a larger mystery tied to Sink’s character, it certainly feels like Sony may have slipped a major clue into its marketing campaign.
