SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Rumor Teases the Biggest Hulk the MCU Has Ever Seen
A new rumor tied to Spider-Man: Brand New Day suggests Marvel Studios could be bringing a very different Hulk to the big screen, and if the information turns out to be legit, fans may be seeing the largest Hulk transformation the MCU has delivered so far.
According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello on X, a piece of dialogue from the upcoming film reportedly features Peter Parker reacting to Hulk’s appearance by saying, “I didn’t know you can get that big.”
That comment alone has sparked plenty of speculation, but the scooper followed it up with “Grey Hulk is bigger than Green Hulk.”
This would mark a major shift for Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner, who has spent the last several years of MCU storytelling operating as Smart Hulk. Fans have been wondering where Marvel might take the character next, and introducing a massive Grey Hulk could open the door to an entirely new chapter.
In Brand New Day, Banner reportedly serves as a professor of quantum mechanics at Empire State University. Peter Parker turns to him for guidance as he deals with evolving powers and new challenges, creating another mentor relationship for Holland’s Spider-Man.
A previous trailer for the film already confirmed Ruffalo’s involvement and showed Banner wearing an inhibitor device designed to suppress the gamma radiation in his body. The technology allows him to remain in human form and was first introduced by Marvel Studios in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
For longtime comic book fans, Grey Hulk carries a lot of history. The character actually debuted before the familiar green version, first appearing in The Incredible Hulk #1 back in 1962.
Years later, Marvel expanded the concept with the fan-favorite Joe Fixit persona, a smarter, more calculating version of Hulk who operated very differently from the rage-fueled Green Hulk readers knew best.
The Hulk connection is also something Tom Holland has talked about wanting for years. The actor previously shared his enthusiasm for a Spider-Man and Hulk partnership, pointing to comic book artwork featuring the two heroes together.
Holland envisioned them having a “big brother–little brother” dynamic, which sounds like it could fit naturally into the story being told here.
Interestingly, reports have also suggested that Holland and Jon Bernthal's characters developed a similar relationship through improvisation during production, adding another element to the film's cast dynamics.
Marvel and Sony's decision to bring Ruffalo into the project also continues a tradition established by the previous MCU Spider-Man films. Each installment has featured a major Marvel co-star, keeping the spirit of the classic Marvel Team-Up comics alive while helping Peter Parker interact with different corners of the larger MCU.
Fans won't have to wait much longer to find out what's really going on. Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
