SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Star Michael Mando Teases Scorpion’s Comic Look… and Hints at VENOM?!

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now shooting, and it’s looking like it’s going to be a wild ride, and Michael Mando just poured a little more gasoline on the hype fire.

The actor, who returns as Mac Gargan, aka Scorpion, in the upcoming MCU film, took to Instagram to tease that he might be wearing a comic-accurate Scorpion suit, and that he might also be teasing a transformation into Venom.

After his brief appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Mando’s return was confirmed last week, and fans have been eager to see how Scorpion will finally make his mark.

On his Instagram, the Better Call Saul star shared some cryptic and eye-catching images that seem to point to two big developments, the classic green Scorpion costume and the possible involvement of the symbiote.

There’s been talk for a while now about Venom and the alien costume playing a role in Brand New Day. While it’s widely speculated that the real debut of the black suit Spider-Man could be saved for Avengers: Secret Wars, Mando’s tease might indicate Marvel is planting those seeds sooner than expected.

In the comics, Mac Gargan’s Venom is a savage evolution and is far more vicious and unhinged than Eddie Brock. If the MCU follows that path, we could see Gargan go from street-level villain to full-blown lethal protector... or menace.

Also teased in the Instagram post was what looks like a faithful recreation of Scorpion’s iconic green suit with the mechanical tail. Recent versions in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man put a unique spin on the look, but if Marvel goes full classic here, it's going to be awesome.

Filming is currently underway in Glasgow, Scotland, where we’ve already gotten a look at Tom Holland suited up and back in action as Spidey. Set photos have started to emerge, though production briefly paused due to bad weather.

Looking further ahead, Spider-Man’s place in the MCU is secure. Back in 2021, franchise producer Amy Pascal reassured fans that the web-slinger isn’t going anywhere.

"We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel, it just isn't part of... we’re thinking of this as three films, and now we’re going to go onto the next three," Pascal said. "This is not the last of our MCU movies. Marvel and Sony are going to keep going together as partners."

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) from a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will feature an impressive cast including Holland, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, and of course, Mando.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters July 31, 2026.
