SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Theater Listing Drops a Big AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Timeline Surprise

Marvel fans might want to pump the brakes before locking in their timeline theories, because a new theater listing just threw a pretty big wrench into the conversation surrounding Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

With the film gearing up to hit theaters this summer, a U.S. cinema chain has posted a synopsis that places the movie after Avengers: Doomsday, and that isn’t exactly what most of us were expecting.

According to the listing from Regal Theatres, the synopsis reads:

"After Doomsday, Peter Parker tries to focus on college and leave Spider-Man behind. But when a new threat endangers his friends, he must break his promise and suit up again, teaming with an unexpected ally to protect those he loves."

Up to this point, the general understanding was that Brand New Day would follow the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home and land somewhere before Doomsday in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.

Marvel’s official synopsis supports that idea, opening with, "Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone."

If No Way Home takes place in 2024, that puts Brand New Day around 2028. Meanwhile, Thunderbolts* is set in late 2027, and its post-credits scene confirms that Doomsday kicks off sometime after those events. So, both films could occupy the same general timeframe.

But which one actually happens first? That’s where things get murky.

Neither Marvel Studios nor Sony Pictures has clarified anything yet, and it leaves this Regal listing sitting in a weird spot. It could be outdated. It could be wrong. Or it could be hinting at a major narrative shift.

If Brand New Day really does take place after Doomsday, it raises some big questions about where Peter Parker ends up emotionally and physically. Tom Holland reportedly won’t be in Doomsday, but Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man is said to have a decent sized role.

So, who knows what is going on. Until Marvel or Sony steps in with an official timeline breakdown, fans are left speculating on how all of this will work out.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31.
