SPIDER-MAN Director Jon Watts Will Produce the FINAL DESTINATION Franchise Revival
The Final Destination franchise is making a comeback, and Marvel’s Spider-Man trilogy director Jon Watts is set to produce the revival for New Line Cinema. He will produce alongside his wife and partner, Dianne McGunigle (Cop Car), as well as the original Final Destination producers Craig Perry and Sheila Hanahan Taylor.
The film is being referred to as Final Destination 6, and the script is being written Lori Evans Taylor (Wicked Wicked Games) and Guy Busick (Scream). That script is based on a treatment written by Watts.
There are no story details given, but those of you familiar with the Final Destination franchise know what the story will entail. Every single film centers around a small group of people who escape imminent death after one individual sees a sudden premonition and warns them about the mass-casualty accident that is about to happen. After avoiding their deaths, the survivors are killed one by one in bizarre accidents caused by an unseen force creating complicated chains of cause and effect. They are forced to try and survive death. I imagine this new film will be more of the same.
Watts said in a statement, “Both Dianne and I have been massive fans of Final Destination from the very beginning. So to be able to have a hand in crafting a new story with the original team and New Line is going to be both fun and exciting.”
Perry added, “Jon and Dianne’s passion for the series is only matched by how much fun they are to work with Sheila and I couldn’t be more excited to have their creative energy driving this latest installment in the Final Destination franchise with New Line. With Guy and Lori’s inspired execution of Jon’s original idea, we have a movie that audiences are gonna love.”
This next Final Destination film is set to debut on HBO Max. It would be nice if this actually ended up being a good film that offers a different kind of twist to the story that we already haven’t seen before. The first film will always be the best.
