SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME Director Jon Watts Says He Believes the Whole Movie Hinges on One Scene

This should go without saying, but just in case, so you can’t say I didn’t warn you:

Fans of Spider-Man: Far From Home were waiting ever so patiently for the film to come out, while we were fed strategic trailers for months letting us speculate where the movie would go with the character of Quentin Beck’s Mysterio, played by Jake Gyllenhaal. Fans of the comic knew that Mysterio was originally a bad guy, but we also know that the MCU likes to play around with storylines and characters, and will occasionally throw us a curve ball to keep us on our toes. This made many people curious when the character was portrayed in the trailers, and first half of the film, as a good guy.

One interesting theory I read about before seeing the movie was that this Quentin Beck was actually a good version of the character, and the bad version would somehow present itself from the multiverse. But if you saw the movie, and are reading this far, you know that’s not the way it went. In an interview with cinemablend, Far From Home director Jon Watts talked about the importance of the scene in which Peter Parker and Quentin Beck have their heart to heart, which leads to the reveal of Beck’s true intentions for the audience. Here’s what he had to say:

The movie hinges on that scene. It's a culmination of Mysterio's con. I anticipate that a lot of people will know that Mysterio is the villain, they aren't just exactly sure how or why.

He went on to say that while that was the only version of that scene, it was worked out very carefully in the script-writing process to get it just right. I did really like the scene, and I thought it was the turning point of the movie as well. It let us in on the big picture, and I thought it was well done.

I loved the movie as a whole, and I’m excited for where they will go next. Did you like Spider-Man: Far From Home? Is there anything you would have liked them to do differently with the character of Quentin Beck?
