SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME Director Jon Watts Shares His Interesting Theory About the Multiverse

If you haven’t seen Spider-Man: Far From Home yet, you might not want to read this post because it deals with big spoilers beyond the multiverse.

If you have seen the film, then you know that Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio is full of shit. He is lying about everything and turns out being the real villain of the film, which is something that a lot of fans expected.

When this actually turned out to be the case, my first thought was, “So the multiverse doesn’t really exist!” The marketing for the film completely built up the multiverse, which was exciting for me and a lot of other fans, but now, after the events of Far From Home, we know that there is no multiverse.

However, director Jon Watts isn’t completely counting it out. For those of you who stayed for the post-credits scenes, you know that Nick Fury is actually Talos, who was introduced in Captain Marvel and the real Nick Fury is chilling in space leading things from afar. This aspect of the film, plays a part in Watts’s theory.

When talking to CinemaBlend, Watts explained:

“I do think about the multiverse thing. People were really excited about it. And we're not saying that there couldn't be a multiverse in this movie. We are saying that what Jake is saying -- what Mysterio is saying in the movie -- is bullshit. But there's something that I think about is that the fact that Nick Fury, who's actually Talos, completely believes this story about the multiverse makes me wonder… now this is off book now, but like, does that mean that Talos is aware of some sort of multiverse? Because there's… this is fan-fiction, to me. But he seemed to accept it!”

As of right now, though, there is supposedly no multiverse in the MCU. I hoped there would be, and maybe there will be, but according to the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home, it’s not a thing right now.

What did you all think of the multiverse fake out? Do you think it will eventually really be introduced?
