SPIDER-MAN Producer Amy Pascal Looking to Produce Universal's BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN

Universal Pictures has been wanting to get a new Bride of Frankenstein film off the ground for years. It was originally a part of the Dark Universe monster franchise they were creating, but after Tom Cruise’s The Mummy bombed at the box office the studio went back to the drawing board to rework how they handled these films.

The last we heard director Bill Condon (Beauty and the Beast) and his creative team came back on board to work on the script and get the project in a place that everyone is happy with. Well, I guess that didn’t really work out either. Variety is now reporting that Spider-Man and Little Women producer Amy Pascal is looking at taking on the project.

Pascal’s production company moved from Sony Pictures to Universal Pictures and according to sources, she’s approached Evil Dead and Spider-Man director Sam Raimi to possibly direct. However, that is unlikely to happen at this point due to the fact that he is most likely going to end up directing Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The report also mentions that John Krasinski (A Quiet Place) was toying with the idea of directing the movie.

One Universal Pictures source told the outlet, “Amy expressed interest in being involved with The Bride of Frankenstein, and just as the studio has done with numerous other filmmakers, we empowered her to explore a new vision for the Universal monster character and come back with a new and inventive take. Nothing has been solidified in an official capacity.”

Pascal has also been in talks with screenwriter David Koepp (Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds), who was initially involved in crafting the original Dark Universe pitch for the film Angelina Jolie was going to star in. His vision for the film was described as “a liberation tale, about a female monster created for companionship who has quite the opposite in mind.”

A lot of fans seemed to like the idea of Jolie starring in the film as she has the perfect look for the character, but as of right now, she’s not attached to it, and at this point, there’s no guarantee that she will re-attach herself to the film.

Bride of Frankenstein is one of my favorite Universal Monster movies, and when this project moves forward, I hope that it moves forward with the right creative team.
